I'm planning to upgrade N5K from 5.1(3)N2(1b) to 5.2(1)N1(4).

"sh install all impact kickstart bootflash:n5000-uk9-kickstart.5.2.1.N1.4.bin system bootflash:n5000-uk9.5.2.1.N1.4.bin"

reports:

...

Compatibility check is done:

Module bootable         Impact Install-type Reason

------ -------- -------------- ------------ ------

     1       yes non-disruptive         reset

...

Is the upgrade really non-disruptive?

Nope. You need to reboot the appliance.

Do you have a single 5K or a pair

if you mean will you lose connections to this 5K ... yes, it will have to rebooted.

if you mean will you lose connections to devices that are lacp/vpc linked .... no you will not.

Single homed devices of course will drop as well.
