Nexus9000 (C92348GC-X) software upgrade problem from 9.3(2) or 9.3(3)

Hi all,

- We have recently received four Nexus9000 C92348GC-X switches which arrived with a mix of code version 9.3.2 & 9.3.3. We need to upgrade them all to 9.3.5, however we are having issues with the sw upgrades

- Code 9.3.5 has been transferred to all switches (MD5 Check is OK)

- Only one (of the four switches) has been able to be upgraded from 9.3.3 to 9.3.5. It actually failed the verify check ("show install all impact nxos nxos.9.3.5.bin") the first time it was run, however strangely the verify worked on the second attempt and the upgrade was successful. The other three switches however keep failing consistently with the same error :-

show install all impact nxos nxos.9.3.5.bin
Installer will perform impact only check. Please wait.

Verifying image bootflash:/nxos.9.3.5.bin for boot variable "nxos".

Preparing "bios" version info using image bootflash:/nxos.9.3.5.bin.
[####################] 100% -- SUCCESS
[####################] 100% -- FAIL.
Return code 0x40930028 (Compatibility checks with running-config failed).
Pre-upgrade check failed. Return code 0x40930066 (SRG processing failed).

- We have tried first upgrading the switches to slightly older version 9.3.4 which also fails with the same error

- Downgrading to 9.3.1 was successful, but the only version we were successfully able to upgrade back to was 9.3.2 again.

- To rule out an issue with the running config, we tried deleting the config on one of the switches, however the same error still occurred.

- Cisco bug CSCvv48289 sounds quite similar with the issue we are having although we are also seeing the same issue when attempting an upgrade from 9.3.3. There seems to be no obvious fix/workaround for this bug?

Has anyone got any ideas?
Many thanks

Jay

Hello,

What is the output of:

show incompatibility-all nxos bootflash:nxos.9.3.5.bin

For info, this was the output:

show incompatibility-all nxos bootflash:nxos.9.3.5.bin
Checking incompatible configuration(s) for vdc 'switch':
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Failure in image extraction

Checking dynamic incompatibilities:
-----------------------------------
No incompatible configurations

(we had also tried write erase to put default config on but same result when trying the install all)

I also had this problem and it was hard for a few days.
This is a bug. Currently it is not possible with the "install nxos" method.
You can upload it by setting "boot nxos bootflash:nxos.9.3.5.bin" and reloading it.
I've actually been advised this way and I'm in service with 9.3.5.
That bug is expected to be patched in the next 9.3.6.
