pm scp process 100% and switch 6500-E crash

Hi all,

The switch 6500-E is frequently crashing whenever the pm scp process reach 100% .

I got it under the  command "remote command switch show proce cpu".

How to solve the problem. I opened the TAC and the engineer says to upgrade the image12.2(18) sxf.

Is there any other work around that would avoid to reimage the switch and reloading.

Thx

Hi Arumugasamy,

Yes the TAC recommeded the right action to fix this issue. SCP messages are used between the supervisor and Linewards. Looks like the switch ran out of buffers due to high volume of traffic - Control / firmware traffic between the supervisor and Linecard pm scp process causing a lot of memory util and CPU

"pm scp process" is eating up the SP memory. This process keeps the SP very busy and hence all the errors and finally the crash,

Going forward, - the issue doesn't seem to be hardware related, hence no need to replace any line cards,

Symptom matches exactly to our issue communication failure occurred with dumping the following error
messages:

1. scp assert failure messages:
2. No EOBC buffer available messages:
3. logger dropped error messages
4. RF KPA messages:
5. MALLOCFAIL mesages:
6. CPU_MONITOR not herad error messages
7. RPC NOMEM error messages

Suggestion:

Then finally SP was crashed and 12.2(18)SXF trains has fix for this issue.

Aru
