Hi,
I have a 2960 switch to which printer is connected
port configuration is -
#show run innt fa0/2
interface fastethernet 0/2
!
switchport access vlan 20
Problem is, after some time, that port goes down and i have to restart the switch.
But, when i connect the printer indirectly to the switch i.e. putting small d-link switch(8 port), it works just like normal
I tried everything hysically. Am i missing anything in switch configuration.
Please help

The port shuts down or is it err-disable? How often does it happen? The port looks pretty basic, and for a printer it shouldn't need to be configured special. The next time it happens, can you post:
sh int fa0/2

Hi Vishal,
Can you also post:
show port-security interface fa0/2
Thank you.
Best regards,

Same printer is attched to the switch to different port. That port is working fine
You most likely have a cable issue. The best bet is to run a TDR, which the 2960 "kinda" support.

hi,
I think I got the problem; the port went to err-disabled mode
sw#sh int fa0/3
FastEthernet0/3 is down, line protocol is down (err-disabled)
Hardware is Fast Ethernet, address is 0024.f98d.8d83 (bia 0024.f98d.8d83)

Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Keepalive set (10 sec)
Auto-duplex, Auto-speed, media type is 10/100BaseTX
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input never, output 20:38:36, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)

5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec

0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored
0 watchdog, 0 multicast, 0 pause input
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
675919 packets output, 51816930 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 1 interface resets

Now I dont understand that why it is in err disabled mode...
Please suggest..

Can you check "show log" for the reason of port being error-disabled.

Kindly post the output to the command "sh interface f0/3 status err".
