Hi all,
I bought 02 modules GLC-GE-100FX (these module is used for gigabit uplink port - It convert speed from 1000Mbps to 100Mbps). I tested them with connecting 02 switch Cisco WS-C2960-24TC-L (first) and 02 switch WS-C3560G-24TS-S (second testing) (all of these switches have SFP port with speed 1Gbps, the diagaram like as:
(Internet)---------(my_network)-------(WS-C2960-24TC-L)------------(WS-C2960-24TC-L)------------my_latop
the result was so strange, like below:
- After plug them to those switch I connect fiber optic cable LC-LC to these all of switch via modules, after the two ports up (blinking green on led indicators), i stared with test by ping www.cisco.com and tried to access some websites from my laptop. I finded out that two led indicators of two uplink ports became blinking with amber blinking (orange color), after the website is loaded, they became blinking green (normal). I tried to browse another website, that situation occuredf again like the previous times.
- I tried with couple of WS-C3560G-24TS-S, the issue occured like above.
- But when I replaced with two modules GLC-LH-SM (speed is 1000Mbps), that issue not occured.
Please help me explain about this problem.
Sorry for my english bad.
Thank you so much.

Hi,
For the 2960 series, in order to use GLC-GE-100FX modules, you need IOS 12.2(25)FX or later versions.
Have a look at table-8 in this link:

Hi,
Yes, if your IOS is newer then that should not be the issue. I don't think that that is delay time and amber color is not normal. When you insert the GLC-GE-100FX in both switches, can you issue this command:
sh int gigabitEthernet xx/xx capabilities and post it here.
or
sh int fa xx/xx capabilities and post it here.
Also can you post the interface configs from both switches?
sh run int fax/x
and also the interface config where your PC is connected.
One more thing, can you add
spanning portfast to the interface where your PC is connected and test again?

Hi Reza Sharifi,
My switches is the new models, and the IOS ofcouse later than 12.2(25)FX version.
For example, IOS of WC-C3560G-24TS-S is 12.22(55)SE5
I have thought like you, but after check IOS, I think it not a reason.

Hi,
You WC-C3560G-24TS-S does not support the GLC-GE-100FX.
See table-7 in the same link:
Here are the models that support it:
WS-C3560-24PS
WS-C3560-48PS
WS-C3560-24TS
WS-C3560-48TS
WS-C3560G-24PS
WS-C3560G-24TS
WS-C3560G-48PS
WS-C3560G-48TS
WS-C3560G-24TS is in the list but not WS-C3560G-24TS-S

Hi Reza,
You mean only WS-C3560G-24TS-L support.
But in the case, WS-C2960-24TC-L, I am sure the IOS is newer than the minimum require as in the table that you gave me.
Is IOS must be follwed with sufix FX, if sufix is SE, it is not support.
Main situation is athough amber blinking but my laptop still work normal, ping packets have not been droped.
Do you think this it a delay time when the switch convert speed from 1000Mbps to 100Mbps.
And the amber blinking occur only if have any transmission data (access website, watching video...)
thank you.

Dear Mr Reza and Mr Daniel,
I used console port to do this command: sh interface gigabitethernet 0/25
(Gi0/25) is the port of first 3560G switch connecting with Gi0/27 of second 3560G switch.
It show as below:
**********************************************************************************************************
Switch#sh interfaces gigabitEthernet 0/25

I find out that after I pluged modules to two switch, ports become half duplex.
And I think this it the reason why port become amber blinking when data transmission occuring.
I configured two port (Gi0/25 on 1st switch and Gi0/27 on 2nd switch) with this command:
duplex full
then I tried to access some websites again. That issue not occur again and all port are blinking with green color.
Thank you so much for help me solve this problem.
But I have one more question, can you give me a link or document of Cisco to explain in detail the status of ports switch.
Sorry for reply late because I have to work ouside office can not access to the switches.
Best Regard,

Alternating green/amber is indicative of a link fault:
The GLC-GE-100FX needs to be hard-coded to full duplex or you will have a duplex mismatch. The duplex mismatch causes the collisions and late collisions you see on your interface. These collisions cause the status LED to alternate between green/amber. If you have CDP enabled on both switches, you will get a nice log message telling you of the duplex mismatch:
%CDP-4-DUPLEX_MISMATCH: duplex mismatch discovered on [local interface] (not full duplex), with [switch name] [remote interface] (full duplex).
and the mismatch can be seen in the 'show cdp ne [local interface] detail':
#sh cdp ne d

Can you post the 'sh run int gi X/X' of the ports in questions and a 'sh cdp ne det'? Enable CDP with the global command 'cdp run' on both switches if it is not already running.

FYI for the benefit of Google / Search results: I've also verified it works in a Catalyst 9200 / Catalyst 9200L with a C9200-NM-4X (4x 10Gigabit / SFP+ Module) as well. I was surprised to find this combination is certified at https://tmgmatrix.cisco.com/
