Question about Vlan trunking

Hi Guys,

Firewall inside interface 192.168.2.1

Switch 1

Has VLAN 1, IP Address 192.168.2.5 (Device default gateway)

Switch 2

VLAN 1, IP Address 192.168.2.5

VLAN 200, IP Address 172.17.0.1

I am trying to create a trunk on both switches to carry those 2 vlans. Do i need to create vlan200 on switch 1 as well for me to trunk both vlans?

Any help would be greatly apprecated.

Thanks,

Lake

yes, if required other side switch required VLAN and device part of VLAN to comunicated this side of VLAN 200 device.

Correct. By doing that, vlan 200 will be part of the trunk in case you need to add a device to it later on that switch.

Hi,

If you have any end device that is in vlan 200 on switch 1, then you need to add VLAN 200 to the trunk, if not it is not needed, however, it is a good practice to add both VLANs to start with, this way when you add a new device to that switch in VLAN 200, you are already set and ready to go.

Just to be clear, you are saying that i need to create VLAN 200 on both switches and then add VLAN 200 to the trunk? Is that correct?

Thanks,

Lake
