Regarding telnet

HI,

We have a onr remote office and we can't able to take a control of the switch from NOC. Switxh is connected from remote office router.

We can't ping the switch can't telnet the switch even locally. But VLAN were created for few departments and it's working fine.

We found ARP entry for the switch Mangement VLAN IP (vlan 1) is incomplete. It's not getting complete even after claring arp, changing cable, making vlan 1 unshut and reboot.

Please suggest.

Regards,

Naveen

Hi,

Can u see in the CDP neighbor list of any adjacent device.

Could be that the management IP might have got deleted.

Thanks

Hi thanks for the reply,

We have the management IP too and we are getting the CDP neighbors mutually. If arp entry found we can able to ping each other. but in router we are getting incomplete entry for VLAN1 IP. what will be the possible reasons for incomplete ARP. can u let us know.

Thanks ,

Naveen

Ok, can you see this switch from another directly-connected switch via CDP or ARP?

HI,

I can see the switch via CDP

Is VLAN 1 enabled on the other switch?

Hi

Iincomplete ARP is because the switch is not responding to your ARP requests from the router

Is this switch configured with " ip routing" or using ip default-gateway?

Thanks

Raju

It would help to know what IP address was used on this switch and in what vlan interface it was configured.

The symptoms suggest that either the switch does not have a management address configured, or that there is something invalid about the configuration of the management address. Perhaps the management address is not in the correct subnet? Or perhaps the management address is not in the correct VLAN?

Perhaps the original poster can post the output of show cdp neighbor detail showing the connection to thsi switch?

HI Richard, Thanks for the reply.

Please find the attachmnet for router config and CDP output.

Hi Naveen,

Could you please share the switch configuration.

From the router configuration it looks like this switch is connected to Eth 0/0 (as per CDP output). What is the ip address you have assigned on the switch which connect to this interface?

Regards

Najaf

HI Nakaf,

Thanks for the reply,

IN the switch trunk interface we have not assigned an IP address as it's an L2 device. We have assgned an IP for the Management VLAN and pointing the default gateway of the switch to the router interface.

Naveen

what is output of sh cdp entry * or sh cdp nei details..... by this u can see neighbor device ip addresses.
