hi all, if you have 2 routers on an ethernert lan and both have PIM sparse-dense mode configured on them, and both have the rp-send-announce and discover commands applied to them, which will function of the RP?
will it be router with highest IP or lowest IP? I thought highest IP would be DR and lowest IP would be querier. please clarify
thanks

Hi,
The router with the highest RP address will be elected the RP.
You are correct about the PIM DR being highest IP address, and IGMP querier being lowest IP address, but these are not related to the RP election.
