Are RSTP and rapid-pvst the same spanning tree mode? And what about the Meraki RSTP? someone please shed some light on this.

Hello

RSTP (802.1w) is an enhancement to old STP < single stp instance (802.1d) < always remember this has "wapid" stp ....as in bugs bunny!)

RPVST is an enhancement to old PVST+ < Multiple stp instances per vlan ("wapid" 802.1w + pvst )

MST - Multiple STP (802.1s) , remember this "s" pural instances

As for the Meraki my understanding its compatible with either 802.1W or MST

Usual RSTP is one common/global instance for all VLANs.  Cisco's rapid-PVSTP is basically RSTP per VLAN.  However, mixing the two (like using Brand X and Cisco switches) can create issues/problems.

Cannot comment on Meraki's RSTP.

How do you configure spanning tree on a Cisco switch connected to a Meraki (RSTP) switch? rapid-pvst or MST?

I see this on a 3850 and 9300 catalyst:

spanning-tree mode ?
mst Multiple spanning tree mode
pvst Per-Vlan spanning tree mode
rapid-pvst Per-Vlan rapid spanning tree mode

reason why I'm asking is I'm seeing spanningtree issues on the Meraki switch (High rate error) when I configure rapid-pvst on the cisco switch.

Hello
Id  suggest mst would be applicable- as I stated previously any variation of pvst isn’t applicable for meraki

Adding to another post - Meraki RSTP - it is the same as Cisco RSTP, you can configure Globally if you using Meraki switches suggest to use and configure. You can disable any port you do not like to participate in RSPT.
