The 6509 is very outdate for upgrades. I asked previous question on files for upgrades. These are the files I have for upgrading:
Upgrade the application partition - c6svc-fwm-k9.2-3-3-2.bin (upgrade 6509 to ver 2.x first before going to 4.x)
Upgrade the application partition - c6svc-fwm-k9.4-1-3.bin
Upgrade the supervisor - s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5
Upgrade the maintenance partition - c6svc-mp.3-4-2.bin.gz
OS image for SUP720 MSFC3 - s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin
IOS Bootloader - s72033-boot-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin
ROMMON for 6500 series line cards - c2lc-rm2.srec.122-18r.S1
My questions are:
1) Can I upgrade both switched to the same versions with the above files?
2) The 6506 switch uses the file s70233-ipservices_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin. Can I upgrade it to s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin?
What is the difference between these files beside the version number? I notice in the files downloads some are ipservice, some are adventerprisek9.
Should I always use the adventerprisek9 file?
Our 6506 is the backup unit so I can load and test on this unit first. We plan to move our network to the 6506 switch then upgrade the 6509 switch and make it the backup switch.
TIA,
Mike.

1) Can I upgrade both switched to the same versions with the above files?
dixho: I have the following concerns:
a. why do you have two software for the SUP:
Upgrade the supervisor - s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5
OS image for SUP720 MSFC3 - s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin
I do not know what s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5 is. s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin is Ok, but there will be no more release for 12.2(33)SXH train. You may want to consider 12.2(33)SXI train software (for example 12.2(33)SXI5)
2) The 6506 switch uses the file s70233-ipservices_wan-mz.122-18.SXF13.bin. Can I upgrade it to s72033-adventerprisek9_wanmz.122-33.SXH8.bin?
dixho: Yes and No. You are supposed to pay for an upgrade from IP service feature set to Advance Enterprise with SSH feature set. Cisco is recently tightened up; so that you will not able to download Advance Enterprise feature set if the switch in your smartnet contract is not listed as Advance Enterprise feature set. If you get a copy of Advance Enterprise feature set, you should able to load Advance Enterprise feature set.
What is the difference between these files beside the version number?
dixho: They represent different feature sets. Different feature sets provide different function. For example, the difference between ipservices and ipservicesk9 is that ipservicesk9 provide SSH support and ipservice does not. adventerprisek9 provides more function than ipservicesk9
I notice in the files downloads some are ipservice, some are adventerprisek9. Should I always use the adventerprisek9 file?
dixho: You should always download what you paid for.

Thx for the response dixho.
I made a typo in the original. The upgrade should have been
IOS image for SUP720 MSFC3 - s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin
IOS Bootloader - s72033-boot-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin
not
Upgrade the supervisor - s72033-mp001-pz.122-33.SXH5 <-- wrong file
In a previous post some said I need a Image and file for the Sup 720, but then I read somewhere (maybe in one of the documentations) you don't need both files. I'll have to go back to see if I can find where I read that. Do I need both files? I'm learning on the fly here so forgive me if it sounds like I don't know what I'm doing. Here's the link to my previous post.

I work for a large city and the IT dept holds the service contract for Cisco and all our equipment ordered falls under their contract. They said they use the Advance Enterprise set. I asked for them to help set up our switch but they said they're too busy so I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do. So thanks for your help.

You mainly need s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-33.SXH8.bin. If you want, you can upload the bootloader as well. There is another piece of software called ROMMON. I suggest that you look at the release notes and find out if you need to upgrade the bootloader and ROMMON:
Unless required, most customers just upgrade the main image. They skip the ROMMON and bootloader.

Thanks for the reply and help.
I'll read it and try to upgrade the switch.
