Set up backup mgmt IP for Cisco 4500

We have two 4500s connected to each other with a VSL.  We are using fa1 as the mgmt IP.  Recently we had to move the cable from fa1 in switch 1 to fa1 in switch 2.  Was wondering if it was possible to set up a backup mgmt IP.  Meaning, could I have fa1 on switch 1 and switch 2 BOTH connected and using the same IP?  Or would I have to use separate IPs?  Or is this not even possible to have both connected?

If this is VSS Setup, you can not have 2 Manangment Ports, since these are Logically 1 Switch now, as soon as you make them VSS

yes you can use FA1 port from Active and FA1 from Stanby device, when the Active kit fails, the Standby FA1 become active with same IP address as per my experience.

you only need routing entries, if VRF you need to make VRF based rotuing.

Can I connect both fa1 ports?  So if active becomes standby, then I would have no connection issues to the mgmt IP.

That is correct. You need to connect both fa1 (mgmt)  ports. This way if one switch fails, the other switch becomes primary and you still have access to the device via OOB. Also, for faster convergence time, make sure to enable portfast on the switch ports you are connecting these OOB ports to.
