Hi,
I have a customer who needs to run 450 to 500 metres over OM3 using a Sup7 SFP+ interface.
The SR module only supports up to 300 metres over OM3
The LRM is designed for lower distances over lower grade fibre typically 220metres
Can we use SFP-10G-LR with mode conditioned patch cables to gain the distance we need to run ?
I seem to remember you can do this with 1 gig fibre connections.
Thanks,
Mark

You will need either Single Mode or Conditioned Multi Mode fiber to complete the run that you speak of. You can use the SFP-10G-LR for this, but it seems that you only have a Gigabit requirement (you mentioned "1 gig fibre connections"). I don't understand why you would want to use 10GE modules for this task. You could just as easily use GLC-SX-LH for a cheaper solution.

Hi Antonio,
Thanks for your reply. The mention about 1 gig was just to say that I've done this before over 1gig which works fine. So the theory of it working in a similar way over 10gig should hopefully work.
This is a 10gig requirement over OM3 500 metres.
I think we may need to plan some end to end testing.
Best regards,
Mark

Hello
Has someone finally tested 10Gbps LR over multimode ?
Not certified, but maybe it might work anyway (as LX works with multimode, even if this is supposed to be operated on monomode)

We can use 10-G LR SFP instead of 10-G SR if of distance exceeds above 300m.
LR supports up to 10 k.m
