Hi,
We are creating a stack with two switches. I've designated two ports from each switch as stack ports and the stack has been created. The problem is the topology is listed as Chain. We'd like it to be Ring a topology so if one link fails the stack will remain intact. Is it possible to choose Ring topology or is it because we're only using two switches?

Hi,
If you thinking about RING topology for stacking only then it's already in a ring topology. Becuase you are using two cables to connect stack switches. And if you are worried about access switches or uplink then you can use two ports (one from each chassis on stack switch) in a single port channel and same on the access switch. If one stack switch or one uplink (access switch) will go down then another link will prevent you.

In the screenshot it shows as Chain topology, I want to change it to Ring topology? Is it possible?

Hi,
there is no option to change the Stack Topology. It is showing due to only two switch (Maybe, I read many documents about the particular model number but I didn't find any specific reason).
As per Cisco documents, One link will be on standby, if you have only two switches.
You have to verify with below commands:
1. Show stack
2. Show stack link details.

For Future information for people with this problem:
Stack switch number 2 is always a backup switch. If you have two switches and want a chain, give them them 1 and 3 as stack unit numbers (or 1 and 4). I have no idea how you would configure one Master and three slaves though as it only offers stack numbers 1 through 4.

Hello
When you create a switch stack (in this case two switches), you do create a stack-ring, This stack ring can be connected either with a single or dual stack cables.
Using just the a single cable which would allow the stack to run at half of its capable backplane capacity ( stack-ring speed =half) and using dual cables would result in the stack to run at full backplane capacity stack-ring speed full) meaning you have a closed stack
