%SNMP-SW1-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input queue full

Is there a known bug for this? I found some similar one but its for like 12.x but couldn't find one for 15.x.

If it's not a bug, what's a good way to determine if it's not.

thanks

HI,

Few bugs and it is recorded on csc thread;

CSCsm80154    SNMP stops responding due to %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR

CSCto74586    SNMP - SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR when using CISCO-ENERGYWISE-MIB

CSCti48279    %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR needs improvement

CSCth71681    SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR, IPCTXERR, and/or CLC unresponsive in SCB

CSCsg60274    Snmp Engine stops responding - Error %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR

CSCtq48275    %SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR generated after OIR operations

CSCtn19200    Catalyst6500 generate SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR when receive IF-MIB.

What i mean from a genuine issue is when this error in syslog is just a symptom of other issue, like high CPU, device polled extensively or snmp engine not responding at all, etc.

The first thing to try to t/s this is to stop and start snmp engine:

To stop:

no snmp-server

To start:

Any snmp related command which was already configured before stopping snmp engine. You can see snmp configuration using show run | incl snmp-server.

If that does not fix the issue, next step is to take the traceback for SNMP ENGINE PID which i mentioned on last post. traceback can reveal any issue with snmp process.

I had a similar issue on a 3850 - it is running IOS-XE 3.3.3. Only one SNMP poller and it's Cisco Prime Infrastructure 2.1.

The same IOS is on over 100 other switches of the same model in the network and polled exactly the same and working fine.

Anyhow, stopping and restarting snmp-server as recommended did the trick. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks for getting back to me. I believe I read the same thread. I still haven't found anything specific to version 15.1.

I would appreciate to see this original content.  This is a NEVER ending loop back to the same post.  Not very helpful to me at this time.

Hello,

I am lost on this post. What is the issue ? Better to open a new discussion.

same on my router
886 with 15.4-3.M5 IOS.
after restart issue disappeared.

Ferenc

Ahhh, thankyou!

I just had an 887 with the same issue. The previously suggested fixes of simply doing no snmp-server and then reconfiguring it to restart the SNMP server process didn't help, the router indeed needed a full restart.

I have a C887VA router that I have upgraded to 15.8(3)M2 and I am now seeing this error message:

%SNMP-3-INPUT_QFULL_ERR: Packet dropped due to input queue full

If I check the output of the 'show snmp' command I see this:

router#show snmp

Chassis: XXXXXXXXXX
2210 SNMP packets input
    0 Bad SNMP version errors
    0 Unknown community name
0 Illegal operation for community name supplied
    0 Encoding errors
    19184 Number of requested variables
    0 Number of altered variables
    1896 Get-request PDUs
    26 Get-next PDUs
    0 Set-request PDUs
0 packets currently in SNMP process input queue
22 Input queue packet drops (Maximum queue size 1)
2788 SNMP packets output
0 Too big errors (Maximum packet size 1500)
    0 No such name errors
    0 Bad values errors
    0 General errors
    2188 Response PDUs
    600 Trap PDUs
SNMP Dispatcher:
   queue 0/75 (current/max), 0 dropped
SNMP Engine:
   queue 0/1 (current/max), 22 dropped

It says the maximum input queue size is 1.  I have the same router running older IOS 15.6(1)T3 and this shows:

0 Input queue packet drops (Maximum queue size 1000)

This isn't configurable as far as I can tell and looks to be a change between IOS releases.  Does anyone know if this is the case or is this a new bug?  It seems a massive jump from 1000 down to 1?

Cheers
Andy

Hi,

Take a look at this link.

https://community.cisco.com/t5/network-management/snmp-server-input-queue-set-to-1-in-new-ios/td-p/3865779

Check if your device supports the below command (Global configuration mode)

snmp-server queue-limit engine ###

I tested increasing the limit to 500 on a VG202XM running Version 15.8(3)M2 and it seems it is no longer dropping SNMP requests.

The "show snmp" still shows "(Maximum queue size 1)" but the "SNMP Engine" now says "queue 0/### (current/max)...."

I hope this helps.
