Stacking C3750 questions

WillemBont_2

Good day,

I will need to stack a second C3750G-48TS to my setup.

The instructions warn me to make sure that the power is switched off on the switch added to the stack.

Does this also apply for the switch that I am stacking to?

Or can I leave this one on?

Will I have down time when the new stack master is elected?

Thanks in advance.

Willem

Hi Willem,

Before you add the second switch, a good practice would be to increase the priority of the existing switch to a number greater than 1 (usually 15) to 'hardcode' the switch to be the master.

Also, to avoid any stack master election and downtime, you should power down the second switch before adding it to the stack

So basically,

1) Increase priority on existing switch ( switch 1 priority 15)

2) Power down second switch (new switch), connect stack cables and power it on. I am assuming you already have the right code on the new switch

Hi,

Follow the instructions in this link to add a new switch to you stack

Or can I leave this one on?

No, you can leave the current switch on

also, make sure you do this in an outage window

Hi Willem,

While adding a new switch to existing STACK, you need to power off the new switch not existing stack.
It should not be cause to down time.
Check the below link for clear information.

Thank you for your support.

Very helpfull comments and advice!

It has been decided to the work in a maintenance window since the existing switches need IOS upgrades anyway.
