Stackwise Virtual Link Failure

Hello,

I am using C9500 Switches and both the of them are configured with Stackwise Virtual with one Switch with Priority 15 and other is with default priority.

As I take out the cable of SVL link all the Ports goes in to err-disable of Active switch and Standby take over the active role.. But as I connect SVL cable it automatically reboots and becomes standby.

I want to ask that why that switch is becoming a standby even if it is having high priority.? Is there any command so that It automatically gains his active roles .

What you absorbed is a normal behavior of StackWise Virtual. StackWise Virtual does not support preemption, as it can cause multiple reboots and network instability. Priority comes to play when both switches are rebooting at the same time.

Can you post the config and show the output to understand.

when the split brian occurs both should be active right?

do you have any links connected down with Layer 2? or any other path between the two?

never seen this behavior, good to know how this was occurring here.. also what IOS code running here?

How to Ask The Cisco Community for Help

Yes Both switches makes themselves as Active and some L2 switches are connected with MultiChassis Etherchannel, but DAD link comes in to action and will disable all the ports other than SVL and Dad link port on active switch and convert standby switch to active.

Current I am not available at location for the output..
