I have a 6509-E with dual Sup720-3B running hybrid code. CatOS 8.4(4) and IOS 12.2(17d)SXB10 on the MSFC. I need to upgrade the IOS on the MSFC, is there a way to do that without reloading the switch? If I issue a reload command on the MSFC would it reload with a new IOS?
I just don't want to reload the chassis if I don't have to.
Thank you in advance for all your responses!

There is no option to reboot the MSFC only. You have to reboot the chassis

All companies have maintenance windows . Pick a time during that and reload . It's not possible to work on network gear and not have to reload boxes occasionally specially if you keep up with cisco bugs and or security holes in the code...

We don't have maintenance windows. We have "accidents". The last time we upgraded to a new IOS on our 6500 someone "tripped" on the power cables.Discover and save your favorite ideas. Come back to expert answers, step-by-step guides, recent topics, and more.
