Hello, if you run a continuous ping from a computer, and then repeatedly re-plug that computer in to different switch ports (for instance re-plug every 10 seconds), will this cause problems ?
From what I understand, the ping running from the computer will update the cam table immediately (telling the switch that your mac address is now operating from the new port). Is this correct ?
However, if you were not running a continuous ping, would the cam table still update ? i.e. .when you plug a computer in to a switch port, does it send out some sort of announcement of it's presence ?
Thank you for any help.

A switch only learns the mac address of a device connected to it when traffic is sent or from that device.
When a device is connected to a switch the device does not automatically announce itself specifically so the switch can learn it's mac address.
