Hi, i have core switch 6509.I need to trace this server A is connected to which port in the Core Switch.I found out that this is the correct way

  • •1. login to core switch
  • •2. “sh ip arp x.x.x.x” where x.x.x.x is the ip address
  • •3. You will get the mac-address “y.y.y.y”
  • •4. “sh mac-add add y.y.y.y”
  • •5. You will get the port # (if it is a trunk port, go to next switch to check )

But in core switch, there is no sh ip arp command, show mac-add add , and very limited command (Enable Mode Command)

Please advise me.

Thanks

Yes - you are running CATOS.

The equivalent commands are

#show arp

#show cam dynamic

Is your core switch running CATOS?

Post a "show version" and we can check.

SCB-CORE-6509-01 (enable) sh version

Yes - you are running CATOS.

The equivalent commands are

#show arp

#show cam dynamic

any command equivalent

  • •1.       “sh ip arp x.x.x.x” where x.x.x.x is the ip address
  • •2.       You will get the mac-address “y.y.y.y”
  • •3.       “sh mac-add add y.y.y.y”

Since i need to trace lots of server :-(

If you ping the address and then do a "show arp" it will show you which port / VLAN it is in.
