Trunk encapsulation dot1q

my 2970 having intermittent problem. i would like to swap with my backup switch WS-2950T.

when i try to configure the 2950 following the 2970 config, i unable to perform this command "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q"

does 2950T does not support this command??

What is your IOS Version Please?

The 2950 doesn't support encapsulation dot1q. All you need is switchport mode trunk.

2950s only support dot1q. you just need to configure "switchport mode trunk" and it will be configured for dot1q automatically.

please confirm, as i look at the document, my 2950 only support dot1q? correct?

my 2950 still can be used to replace the 2970??

The 2970 supports dot1q and ISL as trunking protocol. As long as you were using dot1q anyway there is no problem with the 2950 being able to only use dot1q.
