unstable connection

Hello

We have an Cisco 1812W, our problem is that the connection is down several times for half second. We have an input/output connection, so ftp, http, Terminal Server try to reconnect or we lose the connection.

Hi

There are many possibilities out here like the reliability on WAN connectivity or on the LAN part.

also the loading conditions both on lan as well wan links.

you can check out for errors/collisions on both wan and lan ports and isolate the cause.

Also the traffic pattern & loading conditions in ur network .

You can run a continous ping and find out whether the ping breaks when u get the drop on the ftp or http or TS connectivity.

Also throw more lite about the config details of ur router as well as ur switch and if any pix is involved.

you can very well check out these points in the remote site too to find out whether really u gotta some probs there in the remote end..

The prob are in both

We have 40-50 pcs connected to the cisco 1812.

If we try to upload any file (ftp) from wan to lan the upload crash.

If we connect from lan to wan with TS or VNC the connection download and upload frecuently.

How can i check out for errors/collisions?

I mean, you have two components:LAN and WAN.We will have to start with LAN part.

(1)are you able to ping all your Pcs in the LAN without problem/drops?

(2)Are you able to ping the router without drop?

(3)Are you able to ping the gateway ip/DNS of your service provider without drop?

(4)And last of all, are you able to ping any site for eg. yahoo.com without any drops?

(5)If there is no sucess in 3 and 4, disconnect the LAN from the router and the redo.

If steps 3,4 fails but 5 works, then your bandwidth requirement is far greater then your current connection.

Secondry,from outside your network,

(6) Are you able to ping your router,without breaks.

Pls give the feedback.Also if possible, give the running config,show interface output.

As a matter of fact, and the facts supplied by you,There is no issue with the internet.

(1)Pls give the "show interface" command output.

(2)Secondry, are you being disconnected when accessing any other ftp server to your PC, say download.com?

Have u considered the amount of errors/collisions comming on WAN side?Have a look

5 minute output rate 781000 bits/sec, 151 packets/sec

667940 packets input, 559405934 bytes

Received 152 broadcasts, 0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles

4 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored

0 watchdog

0 input packets with dribble condition detected

1137008 packets output, 278574208 bytes, 0 underruns

34548 output errors, 51692 collisions, 0 interface resets

They are the probable cause of your trouble.

(1)Try giving "clear counters" command and monitor the WAN interface.Moniter for at least 24hrs.

When u get the same pattern,there is definately the Physical layer problem.

You then will have to identify them.

(2)Next step will be to check the router since the errors are output in nature.Pls monitor the link then we will see to it.
