Version MisMatch

Hello -

I was in the process of stacking 2 2960-S' and came across a Version Mismatch error.

Master was at 15.0(2)SE8 and Member was at 15.0(1)SE

I thought that as long as both were at 15.x they were Stackable?

Should these be stackable at those version levels?

I have a few switches I also need to stack that are Master 15.0(1)SE2 and "future" Member 15.0-SE8MD. Would those work together in a stack?

Thanks,

Hi,

Switches with the same major version number but with a different minor version number as the stack master are considered partially compatible. When connected to a switch stack, a partially compatible switch enters version-mismatch (VM) mode and cannot join the stack as a fully functional member. The software detects the mismatched software and tries to upgrade (or downgrade) the switch in VM mode with the switch stack image or with a tar file image from the switch stack flash memory

If the auto upgrade does not work, you need to manually match the ios.

The best practice i prefer when dealing with stack switches, is match the new member to the same IOS as master, power it off, and then conenct it to stack and then power on. It should avoid any unnecessary troubles.

Hope this helps,

Madhu

Thanks Madhu!

Can the IOS' be downgraded on the Master as well to match the Member if the Member is newer?

Thanks,

Yes, that also should be fine.

Basically means they both should match each other to have fully operational.

Hope this helps

Madhu.
