VSS and number of SUPs

Hi,

I would like to implement VSS with only one SUP in each chassis, with option to allow client to buy new SUPs and add chassis redundancy.

Is this something that make sense? I read that in future VSS will support 2 SUPs per chassis, so I guess creating MEC between SUPs would have to be created (ex: C1S1P1-C2S1P1; C1S1P2-C2S2P1; C1S2P1-C2S1P2; C1S2P2-C2S2P2) so if any sup dies, we will still have VSS up and running..

Can you please shed some more light on this?

hi,

this is highly dependend on a) how much money the customer has / wants to invest and b) how much redundancy you want.

technically you can do the same setup as with single-mode chassis. so either active/active or active/standby.

to be honest i also don't know if you have to create an extra VSL for the second sup, or if you can add just the 4 new interfaces to the old VSL.

Starting with SXI4, you can put dual VS-Sup720 PER CHASSIS.

The new IOS version, SXJ, has a new feature called enhanced Fast Software Upgrade (eFSU).
