Hi everybody,
I have configured 2 6509E chassis with two 2T supervisors in each chassis. We are using de IOS version 15.1(1)SY.
We have a VSL with 2 TenGig interfaces.
After to apply the command : switch convert mode virtual , the Sup Standby in each chassis become to ROMMON mode.
When I connect to the console of sup (rommon) and apply the command boot, it received this message:
System detected Virtual Switch configuration...
Interface TenGigabitEthernet 2/5/4 is member of PortChannel 20
Interface TenGigabitEthernet 2/5/5 is member of PortChannel 20

*Apr 25 19:43:44.747: %PFREDUN-4-SUP_FORCE_TO_ROMMON: Supervisor forced to rommon with reason: In-chassis Standby is not supported in this version
Resetting .......
I try introducing the command : switch virtual in-chassis standby switch 1 enable; and after that I try to boot the sup(rommon) but the result is exactly the same.
Please, I need to know if is necessary to change to another IOS version or introduce another adicional configuration.

Last I have heard, Quad SUP VSS still is not supported with the Sup2T. There has been some talk of it coming at some point but as of the latest IOS release, I have not seen it.

Cisco has been talking about this for the last 2 years, but no action.
every time I ask, the answer is the next quarter or the first quarter of next year and so on......

We have the exactly the same hw and sw in both chassis.

Do you have the same exact Rommon firmware?
Also, can you try using only one sup in each chassis and test again?
BTW, your VSL config is correct.

Hi Reza,
The VSS is working right now, but only with one supervisor by chassis.
When I introduces the command show module the second supervisor appears as UNKNOWN, and it must appears STANDBY(CSSO).

Can you post "sh module switch 1 and "sh module switch 2"?
Also, what is the output of "sh switch virt"?
They should be in SSO for the VSS to work correctly.

I am having this exact same problem.
Pre-VSL each stand alone 6509e showed both supervisors / modules / SSO in-chassis was all fine. After enabling the VSL link the second supervisor in each chassis is showing UNKNOWN.
Show interface status - module 6 is not listed
Show interface status - my cross connected interfaces (te1/5/5; 2/5/5) are showing NOT CONNECTED.
As per the guide I have
te1/5/4 -> 2/5/4
te1/6/4 -> 2/6/4
te 1/5/5 -> te2/6/5
te 1/6/5 -> te2/5/5
VSL link is up however I am only using the 1 pair of supervisors and 1 interface on each of the 2 supervisors that are up.
Meaning out of 8 interfaces only 2 are showing up connected.
Opened a TAC and hopefully Cisco can resolve it. I will post any results / findings from my TAC.

Hi John.
Quad-Sup in sup2t is supported on 15.1.(1)SY1. What version are your switches running?

Hi Wilson -
I am running that version on all 4 supervisors. 15.1(1)SY1.
The Cisco TAC thought it might be bad software image on the secondary supervisors however when I check filesize they match. I am going to replace the images with XMODEM this morning to verify they are running the same image file as the primary supervisors but I am pretty sure they are (as indicated by pre-VSL Active / Hot Standby; this image was fine pre-VSL)
Any ideas?

I used TFTP to upload the same image the primary supervisors are running and still cannot boot out of rommon

Hello John.
Can you put in a notepad the booting process for both supervisors in chassis 1 for example and posted.
Regards.
Wilson B.
