Is there ANY WAY to change the VTP mode and domain in a Catalyst 9500 from transparent to server without human intervention? That is without manually configure 'vtp mode server' and 'vtp domain MyVtpDomain'
At one site they plugged in a Cisco switch with VTP mode server and a VTP domain configured to a trunk port in a C9500 running 16.12.4 in VTP mode transparent. When I checked, the C9500 was now in VTP server mode, with an old (discontinued) VTP domain configured.
I have never seen VTP mode or domain changed from one, to another, by plugging in a VTP server or client to a switch running in VTP transparent mode. In fact, one of the ideas of VTP mode transparent is to stay out of VTP domains but allow VTP traffic to pass through the switch.

This may be part of template configuration, Switch can not change it self VTP config, until it sources from other network config.
if this is Server, make sure before you bringing to network ( it may have other impacts)
if your VTP environment have VTP Server, change new device to Client will be an good option.
if no VTP environment make it transparent remove other VTP config which is not required, and create VLAN manually respected branch or remove office requirement.
