Is there a link that can explain all technology that can be implemented on a switch ?

Only thing close to it that I'm aware of is the Product Advisory located at:
http://cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/products_category_additional_resources.html
After you finish with a couple of initial requirements, you can check all or some of the switches and hit on "Compare" that will give you a list of "features" you may use as a checklist.

u can do routing
u can do switching
u can do filtering
u can add firewall modul do firewalling
u can do QoS
u can do policing
u can do trunking
u can do power over ethernet
u can do pact capturing
and so on ....

Maybe you can try to explain the benefits he will gain with switches and put aside (at the beginning at least) what switches actually do.

If I want to do the High Level Design, then I have to do a site survey.
So I will ask the customer about their need.
And I won't ask them with a technical language (VLAN,STP,COS...) but with a comprehensible language.
Is there a checklist somewhere about switching.
With this checklist I will be able to determine the exact technology that I will implement for them.
