what is configure a manual address binding

i cant understood (configure a manual address binding ) clear,

is it a static ip by the dhcp server ?

If the context is  : if you looking a fixed IP for the device all time, yes it is reserved in DHCP for that MAC address to get all the time same IP address.

 

If this is this not the case --explain more information.

basically is like static ip but you do it from the admin area

Yes/no - it can be both.

 

I manual dhcp binding is a reservation in the dhcp scope against a specific host, basically informing the dhcp server not to allocate it to any ohter host other than the one specifed in that manual binding.

You usually create such bindings for devices like printers, scanners, aps, phones etc.. or certain hosts that you wish to have the same ip address.

Now this host can be statically assigned an ip address by yourself and then the dhcp reservation wont by mistake allocate that same ip address to any other dhcp client or you can have your end host to receive the same ip address dynamically via the dhcp server each time that host comes on line.

 

Lastly you create this binding in dhcp by specifying an ip address of your choice + the devices physical address ( mac-address)
