Hi there!
I really want to understand what this timers are, and how they act to the ip sla
for example:
ip sla monitor 10
type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 4.2.2..2 source-interface FastEthernet0/0
timeout 6000
threshold 7000
frequency 8
what does mean timeout, threshold, and what frequency.
in above scenario, it the link to reach 4.2.2.2 is dropped, how many seconds will change the track from up to down?
What will happen if none of them is configured?
Regards!

Hi,
frequency: how often to send the SLA probe in seconds, here every 8 seconds.
timeout: how often to wait for a reply in milliseconds, here 6000 milliseconds or 6 seconds
threshold: http://netexpert.blogspot.be/2009/02/ip-sal-timeout-or-threshold.html
its more of a statistical tool used to evaluate if the timeout value can be lowered or must be raised in normal conditions, at least this is how I understand it.
If these values are not set they default to the default values:http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/ipsla/configuration/guide/sla_icmp_echo.html
In this config when an echo-reply is not received after 6 seconds then the status will be False and the tracked object will be Down.
