WIFI

I have a Cisco 871 and have been using it to connect my laptop via wireless for about a year.

Now my laptop comes back with "Cannot connect to DHCP server" (my ISP serves up DHCP).

I have updated the laptop wifi driver, Windows is current, etc The wifi card passes all diagnostics.

I can see the laptop connecting to the router.

I have rebooted the router, cable modem, etc.

Is there something on the router that needs to be reconfigured or any other thoughts?

Hi!

Exact same error. No or limited connection, cannot find DHCP. Pulls a 169.x.x.x IP. Same error as before.

Althought I can see the laptop connected to the router with good signal strength.

I believe your laptop is connecting to a rogue access point that has the same SSID.  Please create a new SSID on your router and connect to that instead.

Can u try assigning a static IP address to the laptop and see if we are able to connect?? and also connect the same laptop to the wired port on the router and see if u are able to grab one from the DHCP

Looking foirward to hear from you!!

Hi all,

The saga continues... yes, it works on the wire - tried that a while back. No static does work wireless either. All diags on laptop wifi pass AOK.

I ran diags from IE7 and the report said possible corrupt registry (WINSOCK).

Since the radio on the router is now UP, I was thinking laptop again, so I did a SYSTEM RESTORE from way back in June, well before any of this happened.

I could try a hard IP now as a test, but I am back to thinking router config issues. It would seem to be an issue with the Dot11Radio0 interface. I don't know, it is very strange. I have the start run up there if want to look again.

I was also able to remove the second occurance of SJMWLAN that I saw on my laptop, so now I only have one. It should be working.

Does anyone know where you set the channel number for the WIFI on the router?

800 series router question - the WLAN OK light is green but flashing, anyone know what that means??

Thanks

show run from the router will help me to see the config issues..

Hi

Well, the current show run is in this thread, but here you go.

Any idea why my WLAN LED is flashing?

Thanks.

Hi Surendra,

Sorry for all the confusion. I am still not sure how this got changed....

Do I need the entire list of commands inputed? I can just copy from your post.

Thank you so much

Hi Surendra,

We are having fun now!! I did a copy/paste of your commands into my router and then my whole LAN was down...

I DID make a copy of old one, so I tried to do a copy erase nvram:running-config system: - guess what- system: won't let you do that!

So I tried to just run the running-config manually. I kept getting errors for some reason. 2 hours later, I pulled an old linksys from a box and plugged that one in. The Cisco is DOA now.

Looks like it all works now on my old LAN (Linksys/Belkin).

I just have to re-re-re-re configure my Cisco again one of these days....
