Cisco DX80

We recently purchased a few DX80's but they werent't really what we were expecting along the lines of support and functionality compared to the C, S & EX series. Here's a few issues I'm dealing with that are preventing me from putting them into production, mostly for Sr. Executives and their home offices

1. Cannot add to TMS for scheduling

2. Cannot SSH so no way to start a call or monitor it remotely

3. When the unit loses power it loses the IP configuration and has to be added back in manually

4. Have to enter a pin before using

Any feedback would be appreciated

Hi,

For the first issue an enhancement is opened

https://tools.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCup84943/?reffering_site=dumpcr

TMS Support for DX series
CSCup84943

Symptom:
TMS Support

Conditions:
DX series endpoints to be able to support TMS phonebooks and provision meetings to the endpoint

Workaround:
None

For the 4th one, you can try the following steps:

First for the device in question make sure the Display On Duration setting under "Product Specific Configuration layout" is set to 00:00 and make sure to check the check box to override common settings once you change this.

Next the setting Require Screen lock should be set to user controlled, and uncheck "enforce screen lock during display-on Time". Also make sure to disable the lock device setting. Select override for the require screen lock and the enforce screen lock during display on time settings.

After doing this save the configuration and then to hit apply config and reset the device. After doing this you should be able to go into the settings on the device and then go to security. Once in the security settings you should be able to select screen lock and enter the current pin and then select none to turn it off.

I will try to look into the other two as well.

Manish,

This is a massive issue for us now. The DX80 looses its IP configuration when it looses power. We have had numnerous units doing this and its becoming a mnajor headache. This must have happened to atleast 5 different units and some of them multiple times. What is nore frustrating is that it happens to home users using MRA and it becomes more difficult to restore because the units are based in homes of non technical users. I am totally shocked that you guys are saying that you havent seen this issue, I am sure TAC must have cases of this. I curretly have another one of those as I type..I might as well open a TAC case

I would open a TAC for every single unit that loses it's settings. It looks like a major fault.

Good morning, I have been working closely with the BU and the developers for the DX80 units and I would like to help you get a resolution to your issues too.

I work in North Carolina and am on queue from 12pm until 3:45pm EST each day.  If you can, can you open you tac case during this time so I can assist.

I do know that 10.2.5 is due out this month or early next month, and there are some big improvements coming that may help with your situation.

Thanks!

Darren, I have opened a case and here is my case number: 637157755

Thank you.  I have added myself to the case and I will monitor the progress.  I've suggested that the engineer request the console logs from one of your failed DX units.  You can proactively upload that to the case now.  (I'll take a look at it this morning.)

thanks!

We are currently having the same issue. Calls have also been dropping a lot on those devices. So TAC suggested that we upgrade to the CE firmware which I did on 10 devices so far just to test. I will deploy at least 50 more at some point.

I'm already having an issue with the CE firmware. Why is the camera display backward? Like a mirror - - Couldn't find any display settings

Hi,

I have seen this symptom before, lost IP configuration during power cycle could be reproduced by having the network cable from the switch plugged into the wrong nic port on the back, I would advise doing a sanity check and ensuring it is correctly cabled.

I followed up with the BU regarding the addition of support for DX units into TMS, and it doesn't appear to be on the roadmap yet.  The feature request provided by Manish is still active, but nothing has been done on it yet.

Regarding your 2nd concern, you can SSH into the DX device by enabling SSH in the Device settings on Call Manager, and adding a Secure Shell username and password.  This allows you do some remote diagnostics, but it does not allow you to make calls or monitor the device.  I like to use debug command "syslog tail" to capture exactly what is happening when there is an issue.

The DX80 does support CTI control so you can control them with jabber when logged in with the same account.

Regarding your 3rd concern, I have tried to replicate this in my lab but could not.  At first, my DX80 was set to DHCP, and it came back up fine.  Then I set it to static, and pulled the power.  When it came back up, it also retained the IP information.

Darren

Thanks Darren for the additional comments and responding to the other two queries. I think the customer needs to engage TAC for troubleshooting the third issue.

Manish

I do not get the fields to set up a username and password when I enable SSH in Device Settings. I'm trying to see if there is a way to change TFTP Server Settings remotely and so far....all I was told was that it has to get done manually. is that true?  I have 30 more devices to setup and it's really hard to have non-technical users do this -

Enabling SSH in the Device Settings just turns the ability to SSH to the device On.  You will need to then log in via one of the users already defined on the system (ie the same as you would use to access the web interface, be this the default "admin" account, or another that you have created).

To solve the 4th issue.

Under Product Specific Configuration Layout in CUCM for the DX80 you need to put the Require Screen Lock* to "User Controlled"

There have been seen some issues with this line earlier, so please also click the "Override Common Settings"

Apply the setting and reboot the unit. You should now be able to disable pin.

To disable pin requirement on all common phones go into

System -> Enterprise Phone Configuration

Carry out the same here, for "Require Screen Lock" chose user controlled and click "Override Common Settings"

Thanks

Hi, I discussed the issue you report above where the DX loses its IP information after a loss of power with the BU for this device, and they have not heard of this happening.  They suggested that you try using wifi and see if the you have the same problem.

During my testing, I was wired each time.
