H.264 compatibility with open source client

Hello,

We are trying to get a video conference call working between Cisco MCU and an open source SIP client. I have trouble with H.264 video stream.

We are using Linphone SIP client. The other end is a Cisco MCU4501.

The call to MCU opens fine by using SIP protocol.

I receive video from the MCU but image is black with overlay text from the MCU: "Cisco MCU 4501".

• Because of the text I can see that I actually receive video from the MCU.

My problem is the black image. I am expecting to see my own picture because I am the only participant in the conrference.

In MCU conference statistics I can see that MCU reports getting erroneous video frames. I think that is why it is showing black image.

Does anyone have experience on using open source clients with Cisco MCUs?

What are format requirements for H.264 stream in Cisco MCU?

Vesa,

The black image is your video to the MCU.  Like you said, normally you would see yourself if you are the only participant in the conference.  So this would mean that for some reason you are not transmitting video to the MCU.

Is the MCU located on the public internet or behind a firewall?

Is the MCU registered to any Gatekeepers?

Where is your SIP registered to?

Do you have any software firewalls on your computer?

Hi Justin,

The MCU is most likely on the public internet, I am not really sure.

There is a Cisco VCS as the SIP registrar.

Our SIP is registered to the Cisco VCS.

There is only windows firewall on my computer.

ok it looks like this is VCS expressway behind the firewall

and it is not always that you see your self if you are the only participant because the self view could be disabled in the MCU !

try to disable your windows firewall and antivirus as well and test it

I know that self view was enabled because I could see myself when I called with Movi-client.

That is why I am thinking the problem must be in H.264 encoding.

I had access to supervisor options of the MCU. On one page there is a still image preview of video coming from participant. I could see that it was video coming from me but badly distorted. Some image lines on the top were viewable but otherwise the picture was garbage.

My situation is that I do not have access to that MCU anymore so I can not try disabling firewall and antivirus.

Any ideas regarding H.264 encoding would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Vesa!

I agree with you. I would check if your h.264 is correct compiled and used,

if its a linux system maybe you should try the latest from svn. It can be that you do not use the right profle.

In short: get the lastest sources, recompile, recheck config and test again.
