Ali,
This service will not overwelm your Call Manager drastically but it's best practice not to run any high processing service during high peak hours. This includes running a BAT jobs, Reports, Dependency Records etc. So that being said there are other ways to get this information like using BAT to export but that also causes Call Manager to have a CPU spike.
You can enable the service and leave it enabled since the service will only affect the Call Manager when it is ran. If you feel that this service will be used recklessly than disable it afterwards.

Yosh

Just my 2 cents. Dependency records is not a very intensive service for today's CPU power, it is simply query of the database and can be done during the day pretty safely. The warning is still there probably back from CUCM 3.X days when CPUs were not as powerful.

The best way to know if it hits the CPU hard is to open RTMT and watch CPU usage and then access a dependency record.
I agree with Chris, and we have them turned on and use them all the time in our environment. YMMV, but that's my opinion.

If you only need a list of DNs that have associated a certain CSS; than go under the CSS in question and on the navigation field on the top right hand side of the screen; drop down and select "Dependency Records". This will show you where the CSS is applied. Please note that you have to have the "Dependency Records" service enabled to run it.

Did you go to the System>Enterprise Parameter>CCMAdmin Parameters and set the "Enable Dependency Records" to true?

The service is processor intensive so you should only run it during off peak hours unless you're system is not heavily utilized.
