Hi Cisco techs,

When using a 3rd party TFTP program (TFTPD64) with CUCM, do I also need to configure TFTP in CUCM 7.0 or other versions to transfer images to cicso phones and/or to upgrade IOS on router?

CUCM doesn't perform any IOS upgrades, and the phone background images, you upload via TFTP admin under the OS admin page.

your question is not really clear on what you want to know about CUCM and external TFTP servers.

You're all over the place and this makes no sense

If you're going to register the phones to CUCM, use CUCM to update the FW

If you're going to register them to CME, use CME to update the FW.

Exactly what to your understanding is the "TFTP component" of CUCM

And why are you trying to use TFTPD64 to upgrade the FW??

If you're an end user, you want to reach out to your IT team for assistance with upgrading your phone FW.

Hi Ratheesh Kumar M,

Thanks for the link you gave.

One of the links inside that link gives 404 error for the example List.xml hyperlink

Is there another way to obtain this please?

Hi again Ratheesh Kumar M,

Please ignore my previous comments. I understand. :)

Sorry. Hit Correct Answer by accident.

No it isn't clear. Sorry again

Am configuring TFTPD64 to upgrade firmware images on cisco phones.

Do I also need to configure the TFTP component in CUCM please?

And for the phones to get the firmware, I presume configuring on the router IOS side

Thanks again Mr Valencia

Hi Jaime,

Am adding firmware to phones in CUCM to give them a stable picture background.

I didn't mention CME.

My understanding of TFTP component is the file firmware has to be transferred from the TFTP server to the endpoint device

I understood via another website that TFTPD64 can be used to do this with CUCM

And am aware that CUCM doesn't perform IOS upgrade

Thanks again :)

FW and phone backgrounds are not related at all, except they both use TFTP, but they're not tied in regards to the configs, and neither one is a pre-requisite for the other to work.

Yes, usually you use the same TFTP where the config files are to get the FW for the files.

You can use other TFTP servers, but you need to manually host all the files, simply configure it as the load server in the device config.

And running DHCP via CUCM command line for the Ip phones to get ip address.

Previously in CME, you would enter the ip address ranges(from xx - xx) but CUCM not have this option as looking under http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/7_1_2/ccmcfg/bccm-712-cm/b02dhsrv.html#wp1062835 unless it is under

DHCP Subnet Configuration but I imagine that to be part of subnetting.

Hi Again Jaime,

Update on previous comment I made.

The

DHCP Subnet Configuration Settings link off Related DHCP settings appears to be the missing link for the ip address range one can use for ip phones.

As I have noticed. Enabling DHCP in CUCM greys out the existing ip address I have given the router.

I hope this is the normal behaviour for CUCM as I don't won't to lost access to the router?
