uninstall cucm

Hi Guys,

i have a question about uninstall cucm from server

what happened with me that i have 2 cucm v7 one PUB and other is SUB

my PUB is down physically and now i work by SUB only .... but i need add some new ip phones at my network

then i need to convert my SUB to Pub

i open case with cisco told them i want to convert SUB to PUB , and they send to me all my license with Sub mac address

then, once i install new PUB server and add these license in it i will have PUB cucm at my network

my question is, how i can uninstall cucm from server and install fresh one on it ( uninstall SUB to install new PUB on same server )

i use hardware server not UCS virtual servers

i know may be it`s essential question, but it`s my first time to uninstall server , and i want to be sure that walk with right steps

Hi Haytham,

If you have a spare server you can look at the possibility of reinstalling the Publisher with same cucm version , IP address, hostname, security password etc and then doing a DRS restore on it. This is the easiest way to get the cluster back in original shape.

>> As far as I know there is no way to convert a Sub into Pub or vice versa. Did you get this information from the Cisco TAC CUCM team that you can just change the license mac address to that of Sub and it will become a Publisher? The database will still have entries of the Publisher and it will still be a cluster. So, please get the exact process verified before going ahead with any license rehost or any other procedure.

i didn`t say that just change the mac add at license will make Sub Be Pub

what i mean that, i don`t have any spare servers so i want to uninstall Sub cucm and become empty server , then i will install new Pub server 

as it`s my first time to install cucm, i will rebuild new database from scratch ..... i will break the cluster 

i will build a new voice network at my side with a new database and a new configuration

i don`t have backup from Pub, so i have to install new one and configure it again

so, i don`t know if i can explained my situation by right way or not

but, my question is now i have only one server installed Sub on it

i want first uninstall this sub cucm ... and then install new  pub cucm

i don`t know how i can uninstall cucm

Adding to what others had said, it is not possible to convert a subscriber to publisher unless TAC had some backdoor way to do it. Starting version 8.x CM, you can use the Subscriber DB to restore Publisher but not before that unfortunately.

I don't think there is any way to uninstall the sub. What you can do is install another cucm on top of it which will erase the previous config. Considering the current pub is not in good shape so only way to restore the data is by doing an export of data from bulk administration tool and reimporting it on the new cucm.
