CISCO UCS Service Profile for ESXi

Do you need multiple boot Luns on the storage array for each host you want to apply the service profile to? I'm just confused let's say I have 12 blades that I want to designate as boot to SAN for ESXi, will there be 12 separate service profiles for each one, and also will I need 12 different LUNS on our storage? I'm new at this and I just want to make it as clean as possible! Any help is appreciated.

Hi Justin,

You can have the same LUN ID for multiple service profiles, along with the same Target ID. However, your initiators will be different and you will have to configure zoning on your upstream switch if you are using end host mode.

Here is a good guide reviewing the basics and how to set it up.

Also below is a great troubleshooting guide;

To clarify what Qiese is saying, in your scenario you will have to have 12 separate service profiles along with 12 separate LUNs on your shared storage. Those LUNs would need to be presented ONLY to the service profile that needs access to them. You can present those individual LUNs to the service profiles with the same LUN ID (LUN 0 for example). This is accomplished with LUN masking on the array.

Think of it in terms of HDDs in a computer. You can't have two computers booting off of the same HDD. Same concept here.
