Cisco UCS VIC 1225

Hi,

We have 3 units of C240 M4SX with CNA VIC 1225 attached to Fabric Interconnect (FI).

I understand that in order for the FI to discover the UCS server it need to be connected to LOM or VIC.

In my case, when I connect to FI via VIC, the server is not discoverable but when I hookup it up to onboard LOM, it is discoverable.

I have done the following:

- VIC is located in riser 1 slot 2.

- CIMC is default

- CIMC nic selection - Cisco Card

- Check in my adapter inventory, the card is detected but there is no firmware (see attached screenshot)

but it is still not discoverable. Any step that I miss?

Thanks

Have a look at

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12760201/ucs-c220-m3s-p81e-vics-direct-connect-6248up-fi

Which UCS version ?

See attached, it's kind wierd, I don't see any running version, startup version or status of the vic. It's in the correct slot.

What is your setup ?

Connect the VIC-1255 to the UCS FI ?

Which version of UCS ?

Is the screenshot from UCS manager ?

Cisco UCS C240 M4 Server (requires 2.2.3 or above)

2.0(3d)

2.0.3

2.2(3a)

see http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c-series_integration/ucsm2-2/b_C-Series-Integration_UCSM2-2/b_C-Series-Integration_UCSM2-2_chapter_011.html#concept_B7955F4AEB6F409CB42D98521784ABD8

The screenshot is from UCS Manager 3.1(1e) VIC is connected to UCS FI in cluster mode, 1 connection to fabric A and 1 connection to fabric B. Currently UCS is connected to FI via onboard LOM since connecting it from VIC is not discoverable.

Does your CIMC got an IP address ?

Can you open a KVM session to this C-Series server ?

Is your OptionROM enabled for the VIC card in use?

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12621021/fc-san-boot-c260-m2-server-and-vic-1225

IP address is obtainable

KVM is available via UCS manager

OptionROM is enable but the status is not loaded

Hi Razmir

I think your problem is:

  •

If the Cisco UCS C220 M4 contains a VIC, it must be available in Riser1 - Slot 1 for SingleConnect or direct connect integration.

OptionROM not loaded: VIC is not recognized.

Hi Walter,

Change to slot 1 riser 1 - same

Change to slot 5 riser 2 - same

Hi

Did you connect VIC to slot 1 riser 1, and then connect it to UCS fabric interconnect, and then ack'd again the server for a new discovery ?

Walter.

Hi Walter,

Yup, currently it is connected to FI and the card is in riser 1 slot 1. Done reacknowledge server as well but still the status is inaccessible.
