Hello,

We noticed we have an issue with faulty fans on a Cisco Integrated Management Controller. After reviewing the logs, I need some clarification on what fans are failing.

MOD3_FAN2_SPEED: Fan speed for fan-6 is lower non recoverable : Check the air intake to the server

We replaced fans 2 and 6 per this notification we received via email from the controller

Server HostName:C220-WZP23300NTG
Severity: critical
Fault Code: F0397

Problem Cause: performance-problem
Entity DN: sys/rack-unit-1/fan-module-1-3/fan-2
Description: MOD3_FAN2_SPEED: Fan speed for fan-6 is lower non recoverable : Check the air intake to the server

PLATFORM:
CIMC Ver: 4.0(4b)
BIOS Ver: C220M5.4.0.4b.0.0407190256

I need some clarification on how to read this. From the data in the table I shared are the fans 5 and 3 need to be replaced or 10 and 6?

Thank you

From the serial number you provided, it’s a UCS 220 M5 with 7 fans. According to the OP, there are issues with Modules 3 and 5. Please replace Fans 3 and 5 and check if that resolves the problem

UCS C-Series fan error messages are obtuse at best.

Each fan module has two spinning fans.
So divide the Alarm Description "fan-#" by two or only pay attention to the "MOD#".
