Hello Experts,
I have to upgrade 10 IO modules (as 5 chassis are there & UCSM version is 2.2). i.e 2104 to 2204.
Already refered cisco link :-
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/hw/chassis-install-guide/ucs5108_install/ucs5108_install_chapter_011.html#concept_CE986C9ED42F411A847AB54176A8DB7D.
I have got confusion on step "Upgrading from a pair of UCS 2104XP to a pair of UCS 2200 series modules should be done first on the FEX connected to the standby Fabric Interconnect, standby should be made active, then the FEX connected to the new standby Fabric Interconnect can be upgraded.".
As there are total 10 FEX, Do i need to repeat these steps every time? active to standby or vice versa??
OR i am missing something here.
Also, is there any link or document which i can refer to check newer MLOM and adapter card models that are not fully compatible with the older FEX model i.e. 2104.
Cheers
Andy!

Andy,
You can check the spec sheet for the individual adapters to confirm their compatibility.
The upgrade is pretty straight forward. Just replace the IOMs on a single chassis at a time on the subordinate side first. I would shutdown the interfaces from the FI side, replace the IOM, and then turn them back up.
After this the FI will push the firmware down to the replacement IOM. You can confirm this in the Firmware management tab.
Once the subordinate side is complete, conduct the cluster lead change, and follow the same steps on the other side.

Replace all the FEX modules on subordinate FI. Cluster lead change. Then replace all FEX modules on the now subordinate, once primary FI.

I am getting ready to do the same thing (exchanging 2104 XP modules for 2204 UP modules), and am curious to know if it is best practice to move the VMs housed on the blades in the affected chassis before doing the upgrade?
