I used the Shutdown Server option under Action but the server is just hung there, and i can't KVM into it to see what's going on.  this is a test blade server, i just need to power it off any way i can.

Besides a physical reseat, you can try the "reset slot" command which is hidden:

UCS#reset slot 1/1 <-- Chassis/Slot

thanks, i'm new to UCS, how do i get to that prompt from UCS Manager?

do an ssh session to the IP address of the fabric A or B.

Use the VIP IP.

That will resolve to which ever FI is the Primary.

Thanks,

Kirk...

also, doesn't "reset" mean reboot rather than power down?

If you are in a hung state, this command would just assist in getting out of the state. This command would simulate a reboot. You may also attempt to decommission the blade from the Action panel.

The reset slot command would simulate a physical blade reseat. You would need to SSH to the virtual IP address or IP address of the primary FI. You can also use the console port on the FI.
