How to migrate existing VMs into a new HyperFlex cluster?

I am preparing to stand up my first HyperFlex cluster for which I plan on migrating VMs from a traditional compute and SAN based storage install.

I have been reading the install and config guides and have a question that I am not really finding a solution to.

My plan is to connect my HX cluster to my current vCenter where my existing VMs already reside and then storage vmotioning the VMs onto the HX cluster.

I can't seem to find how to get the VMs current network onto the HX cluster which if not there will halt the storage vmotion

Is there a way to extend the DVS where the current portgroups reside onto the new HX cluster?

I know I can run the post install script to create the vmnetworks which I assume would be on a new DVS solely within the HX cluster.  If possible I would like to re-use the DVS I already have set up and just extend it into HX.

Or is there a better way to migrate existing VMs into a new HX cluster?

This require more planning.

1. you need to have underlay network stretched between HX and Old Exsi environment.

2. If you have VSAN availability on both HX and Exsi(old)

3. then you should have same VLAN available in new environment you can move from old to new.

this requirement more ground work and planning and roll back plan. after assessing the risk, if they are very critical you need to have snapshot ready for restore in case any issue.

That’s what I am trying to do is the more planning.

I can get the same VLANs across the underlying network by trunking through the network to both new and old hosts.

Under 1 vCenter I didn’t think I could have a portgroup named ‘web’ on old dvs and new portgroup named ‘web’ on both clusters using the same vlan on two different DVS
