Noticed one of the I/O module keeps showing "Identify" status and is throwing " FSM Retries Exhausted" critical error. We've tried to reset it using UCS Manager, but did not resolve our issue. Now we plan on physically reset the I/O module (slide out and slide back in). Do we have to power down the chassis in order to do so?

Greetings.
You should not need to power down the chassis.
You may need to have TAC check on the UCSM/FI status to make sure there is not some other issue causing the IOM discovery to fail.
Thanks,

thanks Kirk, we're suspecting the cables from the chassis and FI involved I/O module 2s are crossed up somehow, because both I/O module 1s are operating fine. We will attempt to reset the I/O module before trace out the cables. Ruling out one thing at a time.
