Are the drives one of the models from the specsheet at: https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b-series-blade-servers/b200m4-specsheet.pdf ?

That SAS controller does list a number of supported SAS and SATA model drives.

Kirk...

no, it is a SATA seagate 250gb hdd i found

It seems that the controllers OEM firmware has been customized to filter out drives that are running Cisco customized firmware , probably by using the OEM PN#/Model# identifier strings.

 If you only need 250GB, of course you could just connect a $30 USB3 thumb drive. >:}

I checked on EBAY.  I found you can get compatible 248GB drives for about $130, which is less than the going-price for dinner in Paris France these days.  I used PNs# from the PDF   I searched for:

UCS-SD240G0KS2-EV

UCS-SD240GBKS4-EV

UCS-SD240G0KS2-EV

UCS-SD240GBKS4-EV

I did try using a USB, however it seems that there are only USB1 speeds available on the internal USB slot, which caused great regret when using windows to go.
I am thinking that a HD300G10K12G drive should work well, and while it is spinning rust, it goes for around 16$ on ebay

I suppose this is the downside to Cisco UCS: No conceivable way to have a low cost lab setup.  The good news is that most Cisco UCS roles pay $150k+, especially if you're acquainted with ACI, VXLAN, and VSAN (or HyperFlex), you can find yourself invoicing over $800/day C2C/1099.

Except in France.  They can only afford Dell. Gah.

20241227_171748.jpgso the hard drive arrived, but when i go to turn on the UCS network switch thats also the controller thing, its now doing this, and i didnt change anything since the last time i turned it on. The UCSB200 is not on,

Machine Check ending with "00B0" means:

Memory Controller Errors / Channel Number 0

Remove/reseat DIMMs in the first memory channel.
Could also (rarely) be a faulty CPU or poor CPU seating.

I'd do some isolation to help determine the faulty part (or simply seating):

  1. Boot with DIMMs in Channel A removed. Does server boot?
  2. Put DIMMs back into Channel A. Does server boot?
  3. Remove Channel A DIMMs and move good DIMMs from Channel B to Channel A. Does server boot?
  4. Install "bad" DIMMs in Channel B. Does server boot?

Depending on what happens on each step would help determine if this is simply seating or a bad DIMM or a bad slot (could be motherboard or could be CPU or could be CPU seating.)
