UCS 2.2(1b) - Adding B200 M4 Blades

Hello everybody! I hope you're all doing fine!

We have a UCSM environment running 2.2(1b) code. Currently we have B200 M3 blades. We just bought two new chassis full with B200 M4 blades. Am I correct to assume if I just install those blades they will not work properly? Since according to release guides it would be necessary to run 2.2(3h) code (minimum).

Is it possible to update the capability catalog to 2.2(3h) and upload 2.2(3h) firmware package to UCS and only use this update package for those new blades? Or I must upgrade everything to 2.2(3h)?

I'm trying to avoid and entire upgrade to just add those new blades...

Thanks!

Rafael

Hi Refael

Before update firmware , you'd better see a driver version .

http://www.cisco.com/web/techdoc/ucs/interoperability/matrix/matrix.html

Creating Host Firmware Package , you can update only new blade (M4)

1, Upload Firmware ( UCS manager / b-series / Catalog )

2, Update UCS Manager and Catalog

3, Create Host Firmware Package for B200 M4

4,Create Service Profile and You can choose "Host Firmware Package" you created

Hi Rafael,

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/release/notes/ucs_2_2_rn.html

You can see the minimum required firmware for the B200-M4 blade to work.

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b-series-blade-servers/b200m4-specsheet.pdf

You are correct in that regards in which you need your infrastructure level to be at least 2.2(3h). The capability catalog will not work, your infrastructure must be on the minimum level.

So, to summary it up.

1- Upgrade my infraestructure to 2.2(3h).

1.1- That would upgrade FIs, IOMs and capability catalogs to 2.2(3h).

2- Upload B-series 2.2(3h) firmware packages to UCS.

3- Create a Host Firmware Package for B200 M4 blades.

4- Create new service profiles to the B200 M4 blades so they use this new firmware packages.

5- Proceed with OS deploy.

That would prevent existing blades from needing to upgrade.

Many thanks,

Rafael
