The enic driver version 2.1.1.41 which comes with driver iso ucs-bxxx-drivers.2.1.1a is resulting in Kernel panic for RHEL5.7
When RHEL5.7 OS is installed, the kernel version that gets loaded with the iso that I have is 2.6.18-274.el5 x86_64 whereas the kernel version expected by the enic driver provided by Cisco is 2.6.18-164.el5(supported distribution). The Cisco documentation says : If kernel version does not match, the enic RPM cannot be installed.
The enic driver that comes with OS is ver 2.1.1.9 whereas the one Cisco provides is ver 2.1.1.41 . The system crashes for non-matching distribution after loading the driver version 2.1.1.41 .

Hello Yogesh,
I looked up kernel bundled with RHEL 5.7 and it is shipped with " kernel-2.6.18-274.el5.x86_64.rpm " version
ftp://ftp.redhat.com/redhat/linux/enterprise/5Server/en/os/SRPMS/
http://www.redhat.com/archives/rhelv5-announce/2011-July/msg00000.html
Then README_rpm file says it is supported with above RHEL 5.7 kernel version
Can you please provide output of following commands from your system
uname -a
cat /etc/redhat-release
Thanks
Padma

Hello Yogesh,
The kernel you are running is not the one shipped with RHEL 5.7 64 bit edition.
Can you please check ( grub.conf ) if you are booting the OS with correct kernel ?
Is it 64 bit edition ?
Padma

Hi Padma,
It is the iso "rhel-server-5.7-x86_64-dvd" that I installed resulted in loading the kernl 2.6.18-274.x86-64. Yes, I am booting with the correct Kernel and running the command "uname -a" shows the kernel loaded and that is a 64 bit version(x86_64) If you will go through the documentation that comes with the driver iso for the enic driver you will understand the problem better. The enic driver is expecting the kernel "2.6.18-274.el5".
Thanks,
Yogesh

Hello Yogesh,
RHEL 5.7 x64 bit installed with 2.6.18-274.el5 kernel version
ENIC driver 2.1.1.41 from ucs-bxxx-drivers.2.1.1c.iso bundle expects RHEL 5.7 (kernel 2.6.18-274.el5 x86_84)
Update of driver completed successfully.
Please refer the attached text file.
If you still have issues, please open a TAC service request.

Hi Padma,
Would you please send me the rhel5.7 OS iso, I would like to install that and give it another try.
Thanks,
Yogesh

Hi Padma,
Please do send me the rhel5.7 iso file that I can try. By the way did you reboot the system after loading the enic driver? The kernel panic happens when server is rebooted after loading the driver.
Thanks,
Yogesh

Hello Yogesh,
Unfortunately, Cisco cannot provide / publish RHEL image.
If the system is running correct kernel / driver packages but experiences panic, please open a TAC service request to further investigate the problem.
