UCS B-Series Management Interface

Can the management of the B-Series UCS be on pass to the uplink/server ports of the Fabric Interconnect and not on the Management Interface of the FI? Just like in the C-Series there is a choice in the CIMC where the management passes to the LAN ports (LOM)

Yes from the FI you have a connection from the mgmt0 port - this is for the FI management and blade like KVM etc (i.e. the OOB management).

Then on the FI you configure the uplink prots which are used to carry the network traffic from the blades.

On the C series if you configure the CIMC port to be in shared-LOM mode then yes all the management traffic and the data path will be via the same LOM ports. If you choose the dediacted port then you need to use the CIMC port on the C series for management and LOM for the data.

Here is the data sheet for the P81E card:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/ps10265/ps10493/data_sheet_c78-558230_ps10279_Products_Data_Sheet.html

You can find the benefits and the features for the card on it.

The LOM ports are simple 1 GIG interfaces.

Hi,

The management of the UCS blades is completely out-of-band management and will be out of the mgmt port.

You cannot move it to the server ports.

I see, so in B-Series there should be 2 links going to the Network, 1 for mgmt traffic and 1 for data traffic? This is also what I thought

And in C-Series standalone, the data traffic and mgmt traffic can be both on the LOM ports correct? so 1 link from the LOM port to the network is all the C-Series needs for it to be managed and for data to pass thru as well as storage traffic?

I get it now, thanks for the info...

I'm just wondering, whats the benefit of using the LOM  1G ports on the C-Series than using the PCIe10G in network side?  Because its a fact that the PCIe10G supports Storage connection and it  has more bandwidth capacity

Does using the LOM intel card on the C-Series have the same functionality as using the Cisco UCS P81E Virtual Interface Card?
