UCS-c240M4 after Upgrade to 3.0(4a), cannot open HUU

Hi Expert,

I tried to upgrade my UCS-C240M4 from 3.0(1d) to 3.0(4a) and it fails.

Lucky, th UCS server stored a ESXI and all VM are running well.

The problem is, when I use HUU to upgrade it from 3.0(1d) to 3.0(4a), SAS expander upgrade fail.

Only "SAS expander" upgrade fail. Others, inculde CIMC, BIOS, network adapters are successful upgrade.

Then, reboot the UCS and try to open "ucs-c240m4-huu-3.0.4a.iso" again. the KVM DVD ejected the iso file with no error code.

Therefore, i cannot try to upgrade it upgrade.

More, I try to open 3.0(1d) HUU to downgrade it. It failed to open HUU too. Captured the error code as attachment.

Is there any suggest to upgrade/downgrade it?

Since it cant open any HUU now. I have no way to upgrade it.

I have seen this issue coming because of network issues. Make sure you have a good bandwidth available when you are trying to boot with the KVM mapped iso.

Best thing which I can suggest is to directly attach the cable to the server and the other end to the laptop. Give you laptop an IP within the same sub net of CIMC and then try to open the CIMC and then try to upgrade and this time it should be successful.

Thanks Pranavgu,

May I know what is the "SAS expander"?
For the UCS C240, when the version is on 2.x, there are no SAS expander. Saw it when we upgrade to 3.0 (1d) - Successfully. But failed to upgrade from 3.0 (1d) to 3.0(4a).

Thank you so much.

SAS expander is basically used to increase the storage capacity of the server.

Expanders are the only way to achieve storage capacity beyond 8, 12, 16 or 24 drives with a single controller card. Most external port cards have two ports and can support only 8 drives without an expander.

Can you check if expander is present in your server or not.

Thanks Pranavgu,

very clear expansion. I check check first.
On the other hand, I try to directly connect the PC to the server, but it also point the same error...

In that case I would suggest you to try a different image of HUU it might be possible that the ISO has been corrupted. If that doesn't fixes the issue please open a TAC case for better analysis.

OK.
Let try different image.
