UCS C240M4 with Hyper-V 2012 R2 server.

May I  know if I want to install Hyper-V server on C240M4 server, do the Host Configuration Utility support it ? and any procedure how to install it ?

  • To install the Hyper-V role, Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter edition is required.
  • Hyper-V is only supported on x86-64 variants of Windows
  • It can be installed regardless of whether the installation is a full or core installation.
  • The stand-alone Hyper-V Server variant does not require an existing installation of Windows Server 2008 nor Windows Server 2008 R2. The standalone installation is called Microsoft Hyper-V Server for the non-R2 version and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 R2.

Hi,

Server configuration Utility 4.0(3) supports OS installation on C240 M4.

Procedure:

Thanks,

Saurabh

Saurabh,

Do install the Hyper-V 2012R2 server will be same of install the normal Windows 2012R2 server ?

Thx

Hyper-V Server is a stripped down installation of Windows Server core.  It comes preconfigured to automatically install just the Hyper-V role, and all other roles are removed from the installation media.  Otherwise, it would basically be the same as a core installation of Windows Server.

Saurabh,

So if I use the Host Configuration Utility, what type of version of Windows 2012r2 server I have to choose ?

Eric,

Are there options available  in the config utility?

Saurabh,

After you choose OS install, and choose MS Server 2012R2 then you can choose like standard, Enterprise, Datacenter  those version, but don't have Hyper-V that I can choose.

  • To install the Hyper-V role, Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter edition is required.
  • Hyper-V is only supported on x86-64 variants of Windows
  • It can be installed regardless of whether the installation is a full or core installation.
