Hi,
we currently have 6120XP FIC with additional licenses bought (6 on each).
We are going to upgrade the FICs to 6248. Can we transfer the licenses to the 6248? The 6120XPs will be decommissioned so it's not that we will be violating any licensing counts...
Thanks!

Hi,
When you are upgrading to 6248 FI, you would have to open a case with Cisco Licensing and get the licenses re-issued for the new device as the license for 6100 series FI will be different from 6200 FI. So you would have to get the license files re-issued for the new device.

We have just been through this process to confirm the above post, unfortunately Cisco Licensing will not change 6100 Series licences into 6200 Series licences - preventing the licences from the 6120 being used on a 6248. New licences need to be purchased for the 6248.
Response from Cisco below.
I just received an update from the Product Manager and unfortunately we cannot re-issue the license for 6200. This is entirely new licenses that needs to be purchased, please contact your Cisco Account Team for assistance.
Thank you for contacting Cisco.

Wow! That's a shame as those licenses are pretty expensive!
I don't really see the point in why they won't do that? After all you won't be using the 6100 device after the upgrade...
