I just got an RMA C200 M2 chassis. The CIMC and BIOS version is only v1.1 and I have to upgrade it all the way to v1.4.
For upgrade from v1.1 to v1.2, I will use the TFTP method stated here.
For upgrade from v1.2 to v1.4, can I just use the Host Upgrade Utility for v1.2 to upgrade directly to v1.4?
From release note of v1.4 I cannot find any minimum firmware version requirement.
What most concern me is, does CIMC and BIOS upgrade has any impact on the existing CIMC, BIOS and RAID configurations?
Thanks in advance for any input.

I figured out I should upgrade CIMC and BIOS individually from v1.1 to v1.3. Then how I can upgrade from v1.3 to v1.4?
I see that for Host Upgrade Utility v1.4(3), there is a minimum requirement of v1.4(1c).
So can I use Host Upgrade Utility v1.4(1c) for upgrading from v1.3 to v1.4?

Hi Daniel,
last week I tried to update an UCS C210 M2 with a delivered firmware of version 1.1(1d) up to 1.4(3p). After the update I read about the minimum requirements, but I couldn't find any nonworking areas on the server.
So, in my case, the update worked fine although the previous version was not like Cisco required. But I didn't tested the VMs on the Host, because it was just a test server with just a few test VMs on it.
HTH.

Hi Florian,
May I know your path of upgrade?

Hi Daniel,
it was just 1.1(1d) to 1.4(3p) directly (via the Cisco Host Upgrade Utility Image and this Guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c/sw/cli/config/guide/1.4.1/b_Cisco_UCS_C-Series_CLI_Configuration_Guide_141_chapter_01101.html).
Does that help or did you mean a different path?
Florian

This guide indicates that they strongly recommend to not upgrade by more than 2 release versions. So I assume it needs 2 steps to upgrade from v1.1 to v1.4.

Yes, I read this as well; but for my server it worked with just one update and I didn't get any errors (during or after the update).
I just posted to give you a field report of my server if you're not shure if you can install this version directly. But if you wanna be sure, just do the steps, Cisco recommends.
