SPA502G stuck in SPCP mode

Good day,

I have set up the files for an SPA502G (7.5.4) according to the excellent documentation at:

However, the phone seems stuck in SPCP mode. When I factory reset it, it asks the TFTP server for SEPMAC.cnf.xml, then XMLDefault502G.cnf.xml, then XMLDefault.cnf.xml and back to the start. Neither of those exist in the TFTP server, and the server answers accordingly with a NAK each time.

If I force the phone to retrieve its configuration by HTTP GETting http://<Phone_IP_Address>/admin/resync?tftp://<Server_IP_Address>/spamac.xml, it does so and reboots but doesn't seem to make any effect.

So short of disabling manually SPCP auto-detect (which would no longer be "zero touch" configuration), where could I look for clues?

Hi Alfredos, did you factory default the phone using the menu button and reset option there?

By default the phone is SIP mode, not SCSP mode and shouldn't be looking for anything unless it was preprovisioned.

Is your phone model SPA502G-R or -RC?

Hi Tom,

I used the menu, option 7 "Factory Reset". It warns that all the values will revert to default and reboots. It then asks again for SEPMAC.cnf.xml, etc.

I did make a few mistakes before I found the above mentioned doc. Perhaps the factory reset doesn't reset everything?

The phone says it is a SPA502G on the web GUI and on the label in the back, no traces of -R or -RC.

It should clear it. Factory default the phone is the solution - through the menu. My memory may be failing me but the factory default option if I recall is not 7 by default. It was 12 or something a bit lower... but that could be my memory going bad, I don't have a phone near me to check.

I would call the small business support center to check the serial number. If factory defaulting didn't clear the SCSP mode there is something else the matter, I think it may be a revision product.

Tried a new, freshly unboxed SPA502G. It asks the TFTP server for  SEPMAC.cnf.xml, then XMLDefault502G.cnf.xml, then XMLDefault.cnf.xml and back to the start.

I am beginning to think that the document I referred to is no longer valid for the newest firmware versions.
